A COMMUNITY FACILITY THAT PROVIDES A SOCIAL EXCHANGE FOR OUR VILLAGE, ONE CUP AT A TIME…
The Café opened on Friday September 4th 2015 in the Village Hall and has continued as a Friday morning café ever since.
It has become an asset to the village, offering companionship and a contact point for people living in the area while enjoying delicious homemade cakes, teas, and coffee in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
The Café is run, and cakes baked, by 12 volunteers, divided into four teams.
It is hard work for those involved but great fun and great appreciation and support is given by the customers who enjoy this community facility.
It is also a great opportunity to give financial support to another important village asset, the Village Hall.
Since opening in 2015 the Café has raised over £32.000 for the running and improvement of the hall.
Annual support is also given to the national charities, Macmillan Coffee Morning, Comic Relief, Sports Relief and Children in Need.
There have been two village Cake Trails in 2020 to raise money for the NHS in May and Help for Heroes in August.
Since 2015 we have raised a total £8212 for these charities.
On the last Friday of each month an ‘Exchange Stage’ is held during the café hours where people can bring items they do not want and take anything they do!
The café also holds two Craft Fairs and Cafes on Saturdays; one in December to coincide with the lighting of the village Christmas tree and carol singing event and a Spring Craft Fair in May.
The cafe team also run the refreshment tent at the annual village Fete and Beer Festival held each June.
Café Gift Vouchers are offered for sale in December and are included in the Parish Council village welcome pack.
Unfortunately, the village hall and café has been closed since March 2020, due to the pandemic. To satisfy Tingewick’s need for cake, the Café runs a fortnightly ‘Cakeaway’ service in the Village Hall Bus Shelter. It is a small way of keeping the Café alive until ‘service can be resumed as soon as possible’!
