Welcome to Tingewick Parish Council Website

The village of Tingewick has grown considerably over the years…from the 15 households with a population of 65 as recorded in the Doomsday Book in 1086!! to the approx. 560 homes we have today and with a population in the region of 1600. The village name also has changed over the years as originally it was called Tedinwiche.

So we have grown, and as a result have a vibrant and busy village with lots to do. Details of all the activities and clubs are listed in our “Welcome Pack” which is delivered to all new residents when they move in.

We are surrounded by the River Ouse and its tributary on 2 sides and open farmland and woods on the other 2 sides. We have a large conservation area within our village boundary and many listed buildings also. The oldest part of our stunning church St Mary Magdalene is 12th century, with a chancel and bell tower added in the 15th century and an additional aisle and porch completed in the mid 1800’s.

We are served well by the village shop and post office and our 2 pubs The Royal Oak and The Red Lion in Little Tingewick. The market town of Buckingham is a couple of miles away and with the bigger shopping centres in Milton Keynes, Bicester and Oxford 30 minutes to an hour away, everything we need is nearby. A good road and rail network make our village a desirable place to live and with a re-opened station planned for nearby Winslow this will help our commuters even more.

Via both our PC webpage and Facebook pages we keep everyone posted of what is happening here in the village plus we also have an excellent monthly magazine called Tingewick News and a village Facebook page called Tingewick Life… so lots of different ways to communicate with everybody.

Your PC meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 7.00pm in the Village Hall and it is always good to have our residents come along and take part. There is an open forum section at the beginning of the meeting which is for residents to let us know what is good and not so good, what is working and what is not, so please come along and join in.

You will find lots of links on the web page with all the information about the village and its events and we hope you enjoy all the wonderful pictures, taken by your friends and neighbours that we have included in its design.
